EDITORIAL REVIEWS:

"Entertainingly original, and the chess-themed and idiosyncratic worldbuilding will excite young readers' imaginations. Inventive mashup of mythology and chess. Kirkus's Verdict: get it." — Kirkus Reviews

"The scenes on Chess Mountain will be like heaven for chess fans! The book was written in a way that was almost like playing a movie in your head. It was unlike any story I have read and I have read a lot of fantasy novels, but the way the author describes Chess Mountain is fascinating. How Kassie wasn't even curious to see the Earth, but how she started liking Earth was described extremely well in the story. It made me think about so many things that we do and have in our daily life that we don't always appreciate. A book I thoroughly enjoyed and If you decide to buy the book I hope you enjoy it too!"

FROM THE AUTHOR:

When the gap in chess fiction for kids called out to me, I answered with The Princess, the Knight, and the Lost God: A Chess Story. The story came to me bit by bit after I read two ancient poems about the chess goddess Caïssa. Working on the project while I was teaching full-time was a challenge, but once I retired from the classroom in the summer of 2022, I was able to bring Princess Kassie and Prince Dimitri to the world!

This fall of 2023 I began to release my
"Cozy Chess Club Mysteries" series for ages 7-9. Four kids in a third-grade afterschool chess club have a talent for solving the mysteries that keep coming their way! Two books are out and the third is in progress!

In addition to chess, I am interested in stories about animals and nature. Another book of mine is the early chapter book
Murray the Cat: First Adventures. It's the story of a special feline with a plan he won't give up, no matter what happens. If you love adorable cats and believe in "adopt, don't shop", this book is for you! You'll also love the beautiful watercolor illustrations by Tammy Brown.

I continue to be inspired by my students and the magical times we've shared and continue to share. Thank you always, dear ones!
