The Eye of Adoption: A Turbulent True Story of Heartache, Humor, & Hope

"No one just adopts." From the very first steps of acknowledging adoption as a choice to the final document that seals the deal, Jody Cantrell Dyer paints a raw, warm, heartbreaking and eventually triumphant portrayal that narrates the entire adoption process through compassionate and entertaining prose. Dyer's candor and soul color each page of The Eye of Adoption. She directly addresses the sorrows of infertility and the demands of adoption while consistently word-weaving a life rope of assurance, humor, and optimism for her readers. Dyer "tells it like it is" in hopes that waiting adoptive parents, birthparents, adoptees, and those close to them will find kinship through her story.

EDITORIAL REVIEWS:

I love how transparent and honest the author is on this journey she takes her readers. You will laugh. You will cry. You will be in awe. There is so much more I could say, but you really just need to read it for yourself.

This book raised my awareness of those who have suffered infertility, gone through the journey of adopting a child or have given up a child for adoption. Each one who has walked through any of these has walked a path unique to their own personality and circumstances. The author shared her experiences with candor and respect for those involved and created deeper compassion in me.

An inspiring, truthful account of one family's adoption journey. A great read not only for adoptive parents, but for their family and friends.

This book opened my eyes to what an open adoption can truly be. Although this may not be every situation, it helped me to see that an open adoption is not a 'bad' thing. Thank you so much for sharing your story. My story now consists of foster care & one day will adopt through the foster care process & I am no longer scared to have the bio parents somewhat involved when that happens.

This book was just what I needed to read as I begin my own journey. Once I started reading I did not want to put it down. I was flying through the pages as if I was reading a suspense novel and felt all her anxiety, joy and fear. So well written and wrought with emotion. I am thankful I came across this book and that Jody and Kerri shared their story.

I really enjoyed this book. it was very easy to read and resourceful giving the reader an understanding of the birth parents journey and also the journey of the adoptive parent and the waiting process. The author was clear and authentic in her writings and relationships throughout her journey. I highly recommend this book for those who are thinking of beginning the adoption journey or as an encouragement for those like myself who are waiting.

Jody tells the story of how she and her family survived their eight year ordeal to adopt a child. No detail is left out, nothing is hidden from the reader as she reveals all the mistakes, emotional pitfalls, doubts, agony and joy and human weaknesses that were part of their journey to eventual success. Families who are considering adoption will find this book very helpful as will birth mothers who are contemplating placing a newborn for adoption. Though not in any way connected to the adoption process I have gained a great deal of insight by reading Jody's book. This crusty old man had a tear in his eyes more times than I care to reveal as I read of the crushing disappointments that Jody experienced as well as her heartfelt joy of success.

Such a great book for those who are waiting. It's a MUST read, highly recommend. Thank you for validating all my feelings and letting me know that there are folks out there, just like me.

Every woman should read this book.

I'm a birthmother and this book was just amazing for me! Thank you so much for your stark honesty and willingness to share your story with others. This truly provides a REAL view of what adoption is.
